Scouting for Elk

Bob and I took a couple of horses and went to scout an area on the Idaho Wyoming border over the weekend. We got there Friday around dark and set up camp. I tried going to sleep around 11 because we were getting up at 6 but I was so excited that I only got 2 or 3 hours of sleep. We had breakfast and saddled up the horses and finally took off around 9:30 because of an issue of where we had parked. In the first 10 minutes of going down a dirt road looking for a pack trail my horse stopped all of a sudden and looked to the right and so did I and I saw a big bull moose in the trees but it only lasted a couple of seconds the after that some mule deer crossed the road. We went through some thick trees on a trail that wasnt too big. It ended up taking us around to the other side of where we left and we went down another dirt road and talked to a man and woman who were bowhunting. The man said that he just got a bull and his wife got a cow. I asked to see the bull and they were very nice and let us and it was a big bull and they kind of told us near where they got it. We left and went the other direction and went a few miles past where mechanical vehicles arent permitted. On the way back we saw another hunter that just got there and as we are riding by we would talk to people but Bob had his Tenn. hat on and the guy asked where he got it and Bob said from some hillbilly from Tenn and I said yeah the hillbilly in front of him. The guy asked what part of Tenn and I said the west part, Paris Tenn and he shouted through the woods as we are riding away from him, I'm from Paris. He said whats your name and I told him but we where out of sight by then. Later I wished we would have went back and talked to him but we and when I say we I mean I was getting tired and saddle sore. All together we went around 20 miles but it was a blast. We are going to go back in a couple weeks and hopefully I can get some better pic of the mountains changing colors, we just didnt stop very much and I didn't want to take pics while riding.

Visit home

We started out by driving 1500 miles and made really good time until we got to Missouri and ran into all the traffic and got into a traffic jam before we got to St. Louis. It took us 21 hours, we left Thursday morning and drove for 14 hours and then had 7 hours on Friday. One of my best friends Slade and his family came by to visit with us on Saturday and it was nice to get caught up with them because it had been about 9 years since we had seen each other. Then we spent alot of the day playing freeze tag with my nephews and nieces. Sunday we went to the DuQuoin State fair but didnt take the camera but we watched a rodeo and towards the end they put a ribbon on a bull and if you took it off you got a $100. We thought that bull would be older or more tame but when they opened the gate a bull with 2 or 3 ft horns on each side came busting out looking for someone to hit and the first guy he hit got flipped up in the air and did a complete flip then he took off and hit some more people and some jumped over the fence but nobody got the ribbon. It was alot of first for Shana she caught her first bass, bluegill, and catfish. She acutally caught a good sized bass and said that they were fun to catch along with the catfish even though they weren't very big they put up a fight. We also went down toward Shawneetown IL on the Ohio river and went to Cave in Rock where indians use to hideout there until the pirates ran them out and also they filmed a Davy Crockett movie there ( the one with Mike Fink and the river pirates). That was one of my favorites growing up. Then after that we went on a ferry ride across the Ohio river which Shana had never done. Once we were into Kentucky we went to Pattis Settlement and had lunch there. We got some good pics there and did some remote control boating. Then when we were almost home we stopped in Benton IL to show Shana where the last guy was hanged in IL. His name was Charlie Birger and he was a gangster in the local area. If anybody is intersted in knowing more about him they have a book called Bloody Williamson. Then on Thursday we got to go visit grandparents for a little while. Also a friend of mine threw a party for us Monday night but we forgot the camera but they grilled some food and had alot of people over and once everyone left we got to play cards with them which was nice. We didnt get to do everything we wanted to do but I guess that leaves something for next time. Oh and by the way mom I gained 4 pounds and Shana 3 but it was worth it. Thanks for everything.

Extreme Home Makeover in Pocatello

I took Shana down to Pocatello on a Saturday and Sunday to watch the progress on the familys new house. The story on the family is that it is a mom with 9 kids and has had breast cancer twice. Also her husband left her either 2 weeks before or 2 weeks after she found out about the cancer and their house had a fire. One of her sons in high school dropped out to work for the family but the local college gave all the kids free schooling. The house is 6,000 sq ft and has an apartment for the older kids upstairs. It is suppose to air around the end of October or beginning of November. We had alot of fun watching the progress and going to the fundraiser.

Fort Hall Indian Festival

We decided to go on Thursday to watch the Indian relay races and it was kind of funny cause when we pulled in of course there was Indians everywhere and Shana said, are we suppose to be here? I told her it is open to everyone but we were the only non-Indian people insight so we felt a little out of place but it was a good time except now we know for next year that there will be a line of people standing against the rail so people in the first few rows can't see unless you stand which is what we did. There was one horse that ran into another and knocked a guy down and he was shaken up but alright later. The last picture is where a guy from Fort Hall jumped off his horse and jumped on another and he was taking off. We didn't get to stay for the miniature bull ride or any dancing but maybe next year we can.

Softball season over

We lost out 2 post season games so when we lost last night that was the end of our season. Everybody had alot of fun and didn't take anything to serious like some of the other teams that have been playing for years together. I needed this to try and get motivated to get in shape so I am going to try and do 50 sit-ups a night. I know that's not very much, don't judge me.

Visit with Mike and Cylee

I think these two could pass for sisters. Don't you? For those of you who don't know this is Shana's cousin Cylee Pressley who lives in Salt Lake with her husband and my partner in crime Mike and 3 kids. They had alot of fun and Mike and I had fun just listening to them talk about the old days. After Mike and I went golfing and we ate luch and relaxed from the heat, we later went bowling were Shana made a bet that the loser would buy dessert and of course we lost. So after bowling we went out to eat at Texas Roadhouse and had alot of good times.

Rocky Jr.

Here is Shana with all the kids. She was surprised that the boys cuddled up with her on the couch while they were watching a movie while Mike and I were golfing ( or attempting to golf). We had a great time and are actually going back again this weekend to go camping. We're excited.

Happy 29th Birthday!

We had a little get together for Shanas birthday on Saturday afternoon. Ford and Carol along with Bob, Kathleen, Paul and Corene came over and we had pizza, cake, and ice cream. It was nice to visit with everybody and see Shana so happy.

Here is Shana and Kathleen with a card Kathleen made for her.

I got Shana these Black pines for her 29th birthday so we planted over last weekend. I know they're kinda small now but you can get 3 small ones for the price of 1 medium sized one and since we are buying this place we're going to be here a while and have time to watch them grow. We have alot of different ideas of what we want to do with the front yard and the back yard but its nice to see some of it getting started. It was alot of fun planting them except for the deer flies that kept swarming us.

Yes another hike

This is our destination those pile of rocks at the top, I did have to zoom in with the camera which doesn't make it look that far or that high but it was just ask our legs. This is out at Mink Creek outside of Pocatello. We had lunch with Ford and Carol this afternoon so we didn't get there till around 3:30 or so. We had many stops along the way to have a snack or mainly so I could take a breath. I have to admit Shana kicked my butt on this one I would say whatever I could to slow her down. There were alot of parts that were pretty steep and she looked like a mule deer bouncing up to the top. We have a goal to go hiking every weekend but who knows what will actually happen. Its nice though going somewhere you've never been and exploring because you never know what your going to come across. We said we are going to start writing a hiking journel and write about the things we see but who knows when we'll start that either. Ok thats all for now I'm tired.

Memorial Day Weekend

We had a pretty good weekend. We started out by going out to the movies from some passes my boss gave us. We ended up watching Bounty Hunter and it was pretty funny but it was good just to get out to the movies. We haven't been in over a year. Then Sunday we decided in the afternoon to go for a hike but we didn't know where to go so we ended up driving to the Targee National Forest and found a place to hike. We hiked back about a mile and a half which was uphill most of the way and we stopped and had a little snack and some water then headed back and was able to talk to mom and dad from up on the mountain with our Syringa phone which is 1 of the reasons we switched over to them from Verizon that and it was about half the price for the phones we have. Then we stopped at a little gas station in Swan Valley that is famous for their ice cream. Then yesterday (Monday) I woke up with a stiff neck so I wasn't able to do much so we just hung out at the house and took it easy.

We decided to play a little game with you guys. We thought it would be fun for us to hide and see if you guys can find us. You might have to click on it to make it bigger but try it first regular size. Where's Johnny?

Now can you find Shana???

Old Audi No More

We are finally going to be able to get rid of the Audi which broke down on me the last day I needed it. We had found out Tuesday afternoon we were getting this car but not able to pick it up till Wednesday so all the Audi needed to do was get me home from work but it had something else in mind that day, it thought it would torture me one last time. The heater connecter valve ( I think thats what its called) cracked and sprayed coolant everywhere but luckily I was next to Auto Zone and we tried replacing a new hose to see if that could get me home but it didn't work so we had to order a part and leave the Audi there and wait till today (Thursday) to go back and fix it in the parking lot. So we ended up getting and Oldsmobile Aurora which will be much nicer than the Audi. Thats all we have for now, been dealing with this issue for a couple of weeks.

May 6th 2010 really???

Today is May 6th and this is what it looked like when I was heading off to work. Don't know that I've ever had to wear a sweater in May before.

Here is Shanas new haircut. She actually got it cut about 3 or 4 weeks ago. I think she looks good with short hair or long hair but this is the shortest that she has ever had it.

Blah

Shana has been sick since Thursday. We don't know what happened she would feel like vomiting whenever she would try to stand up. Then she started feeling better on Saturday then even better today. We haven't really done much this weekend. We've been taking care of Bob and Kathleens horses, dogs, and cats since Friday. Friday was one of the more hectic days I've had in a while and I know its not much compared to you people with kids but Shana was sick so I had to feed our dogs then go meet my boss to pick up some paperwork in Blackfoot then over to Bob and Kats. When I got there I realized that I forgot the house keys so i could feed the cats and let them out, so I had to go back home pick up the keys then go back there and take care of all the animals. Good thing my job lets me make my own schedule because the time I did all of that it was about 10a.m.. So then I had to work without a lunch till about 6:30 and I was in Pocatello. So I had to go back to Bob and Kats and put the cats up and feed all the animals again, then Shana needed some medicine and some other stuff so I had to go to Walmart and finally when I got home had to feed our dogs again. I was pooped. So this weekend we just took care of the animals, watched movies and vegged out and it was nice.

Friday night sleep over

Its funny being a aunt and uncle is kind of like being a grandparent, you get to spoil the kids then send them home. So when the kids knew they were going to stay the night they said they wanted to build a tent which is usually a blanket over the foot stool and the couch but we thought they would enjoy sleeping in an actual tent in out bedroom. It also served as the jail for our many cops and robbers games and where we 2 of us would count and the other 2 hide for hide and go seek which I think is their favorite game.

You can tell in this picture that its hard for you to keep up with kids when you don't have any. I didn't want to put it on here but Shana told me I should. It looks like the kids are happy though and thats what matters

The kids were fighting over a certain chair that we had so we compromised on these "director" chairs that we found. They had fun sitting in them as we watched Sleeping Beauty and had popcorn.
